The Las Vegas Sun is focusing on hyperlocal “Home News” neighborhood information that positions it for Yellow Pages-like sales, according to Sun President Brian Greenspun, who was speaking at a recent conference at the University of Las Vegas Nevada.

The technology, which is currently in beta, also lets users search crime data, housing prices, foreclosure listings and restaurant information within their ZIP code They can easily personalize (or delete) the info widgets based on preference. (try out zip code “89032” to get local results).

“We think we can be the new Yellow Pages in the area, so that a small merchant can spend $50 a month and really reach the people in their neighborhood,” Greenspun says.
