The French search and directories firm PagesJaunes has expanded its presence in the dining vertical by acquiring Chronoresto, a site that allows consumers to order takeout food online. The acquisition follows the company’s strategy of building deep content and transaction capability in key verticals, including home improvement, hotels and restaurants, classifieds (real estate, auto, employment), and health and beauty.
PagesJaunes already has a strong presence in the dining vertical with its deep restaurant content on pagesjaunes.fr and a vertical mobile app called Rest’Oh (to evaluate, select and book restaurants). While the acquisition broaden’s the publisher’s capabilities in the dining vertical, PagesJaunes inturn offers Chronoresto access to additional distribution, through pagesjaunes.fr and mappy.com, for example.
Chronoresto was founded in 2008 and offers a multi-channel solution for French consumers who want to order meals from the company’s 800 partner restaurants. Chronoresto has solutions for Internet, mobile, tablet and connected TV users. According to PagesJaunes, there were 5 million Internet food delivery orders in France in 2012, and that figure is expected to double in the next two years.
