As we've argued before, broadband Internet access will continue its march. In accordance with that notion, U.S. House Democrats (according to an article in Ad Age [reg req'd]) have proposed: "affordable broadband access in every home within five years." Not to be outdone, Republicans embraced the concept (so there's unanimity).
Here are a couple of thoughts:
- If the government makes good on this, the initiative pits it against the ISPs of the world that want to boost, not reduce, margins.
- All the broadband consumer behaviors (more time online, more page views, etc.) will continue to gain.
- VoIP telephony will benefit from this too (because it relies on broadband).
