Yahoo! Podcast Portal

OK, so podcasting isn't yet part of the seemingly ever-expanding realm of things I find myself tracking these days. I'm just going to mention in passing that it's significant in the following ways:

• Podcasts are another species of user-generated content (assuming they're created by individuals rather than traditional content publishers/creators).
• They are part of the "long tail" phenomenon and further fragment the mainstream media audience.
• Together with satellite radio, they have the potential to substantially disrupt commercial and local radio over time.

Yahoo! launched a podcasting portal tonight, adding its weight to the gradually increasing awareness and momentum surrounding this phenomenon.
